Hilton Head is 25 miles north of historic Savannah, Georgia and 95 miles south of Charleston South Carolina. Both cities are also popular tourist destinations worthy of a day trip while you are here in the Lowcountry.

 

Hilton Head Island has been primarily developed into gated plantation communities; Hilton Head Plantation, Indigo Run, Long Cove Club, Palmetto Dunes, Palmetto Hall, Port Royal Plantation, Sea Pines Resort, Shipyard Plantation, Spanish Wells, Windmill Harbour, and Wexford are Hilton Head Island's private gated communities. Hilton Head Island’s non-gated communities/ neighborhoods are Broad Creek Landing, Folly Field Beach, North & South Forest Beach, Palmetto Bay Marina, Singleton Beach, and several other small neighborhoods.

 Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Plantation; Hilton Head Island, SC is home to the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament held in April every year. In addition to golf, Harbour Town & Sea Pines Plantation has over five miles of white sandy beachs, miles and miles of bike/ walking paths, numerous shops and restaurants. Harbour Town & Sea Pines  is most well known for it's famous red & white striped lighthouse.  Sea Pines has established a world wide reputation as one of the most spectacular vacation destinations.

 

palmetto-dunes-course.jpgHilton Head Plantation also has 3 golf courses within the community: Country Club of Hilton Head, Bear Creek Golf Club, Oyster Reef Golf Club and Dolphin Head Golf Club. Hilton Head Plantation is a private gated residential community located off Highway 278 between mile marker 3 and 4.

 

Palmetto Dunes has 3 golf courses within itself as well, but it is both a residential and resort community. There are many year round residents as well as vacationers and it too is located off of Highway 278. Palmetto Dunes golf courses have been designed by and named after professional golfers; George Fazio, Robert Trent Jones and Arthur Hills.



Hilton Head Island Activities & Attractions

There are countless fabulous restaurants and pubs to relax at after a long day of golf, water sports or shopping (some of which serve locally caught seafood). The miles and miles of bike paths that wrap all the way around Hilton Head Island make it fun and easy to get around and check out all the Island has to offer including one of a kind boutiques and shops.

 

 During the spring and summer months, there are also several wine and food festivals held in the South Carolina Lowcountry area.

 

 

hilton-head-paddle-boarding.jpgShelter Cove in Palmetto Dunes, a popular Hilton Head Island shopping and dining destination also hosts fireworks every Tuesday (weather permitting) from the end of May through Labor Day in September. Shelter Cove Marina is Hilton Head Island's largest yacht basin. Shelter Cove Marina also offers a wide variety of recreational activities including, water sports, crabbing, fishing, sailing and dinner cruises. Similar shopping, dining and water sport activities as well as water skiing, para-sailing, jet ski rentals, enviro-tours and kayaking can also be enjoyed in South Beach, Sea Pines Plantation on the opposite end of Hilton Head Island which if you are not staying in Sea Pines Plantation you will need to purchase a $5.00 day pass at the gate.
